Is Candida DieOff Real

There’s plenty of ‘Candida Die Off’ talk online. Is there a way to separate the fact from the myth?

Kolorex is backed by scientific research. It’s important to follow the same evidence-based approach when we consider whether “Candida Die Off’ is real.

What does the science say? What do other Kolorex users experience? Let’s look at the facts.

Candida is part of our normal flora – it’s there all the time. An opportunistic yeast, it behaves almost like a weed, growing wild if given a chance.

Kolorex supports Candida re-balancing

Research shows that Kolorex supports the body’s natural response to Candida overgrowth.

When Candida yeast is destroyed, cell walls break open, their contents are liquified and spilled out as cell debris. Toxins are released including acetaldehyde, uric acid and gliotoxins.

Our bodies need to excrete these toxins ASAP. It’s believed the symptoms associated with ‘Candida Die Off’ are related to a Herxheimer’s reaction (Herx for short) that can occur when cell debris and toxins are not flushed out quickly enough.

Herx Reaction

This medical term is used to describe symptoms often seen when bacteria or yeast are destroyed rapidly and cell debris is produced. 1

Common symptoms:

  • Changes to bowel patterns – loose bowels or constipation
  • Bloating, rumbling tummy, cramps, gas
  • Headaches or a ‘fuzzy brain’
  • Feeling nauseous
  • Tiredness
  • A hungover-type feeling
  • Skin itching or blotchiness

The good news

  • It appears only a small number of Kolorex users report experiencing this
  • Following the guidelines below can help avoid it

These self-reported ‘Candida Die Off’ symptoms match with medically recognised Herxheimer’s reactions. There are published medical case reports on Candida Herxheimer’s reactions. 2

If you experience unwanted affects you think might be related to a new supplement, the best policy is to stop taking it, at least temporarily. If you continue to feel unwell, speak to a medical professional.

What does the science say?

Let’s follow Kolorex’ science-based approach.  We see plenty about ‘Candida Die Off’ all over the internet. But, ‘Candida Die Off’ is not a widely accepted medical term. There doesn’t appear to be specific research published about Candida-related Herxheimer’s reactions. Which means we lack published data on how common it is or who is likely to experience it. This also means we don’t have adequate research to support the term ‘Candida Die Off’. A Candida Herx reaction may be a more accurate term. Or Candida re-balancing.

From a scientific standpoint, the Candida Herx reaction does have validity, because there are published medical case reports.

How to avoid it?

If the body is working well to flush out cell debris, you shouldn’t notice symptoms associated with a Candida Herx reaction or Candida re-balancing.

Here are some general guidelines given by a qualified, registered naturopath, to support healthy detox pathways and remove cell debris via the kidneys, liver and bowel.

Start slowly

Take one Kolorex capsule every 2nd or 3rd day, build up to the full dose over 2 weeks. This allows the body time to remove by-products.

Drink plenty of water

Aim for 2-3 litres of purified water daily. This helps the kidneys flush out toxins.

Limit sugar & refined carbs

In lab tests sugar keeps Candida fitter, faster and stronger, it’s wise to limit high sugar fruits too.

Cut alcohol

Alcohol is bad news because it competes for detox pathways and makes extra work for the liver – it also affects microbial balance.

Take a fibre supplement

Try psyllium or flaxseed. Imagine tiny disposable sponges in the bowel soaking up toxins then being removed in bowel motions. This helps the liver and bowel excrete toxins.

Keep it simple

Don’t try everything all at once, aim to avoid overloading your body. Implement these changes a week before starting Kolorex. Add any new supplements one at a time.

Allergic reaction

When you try any new medication, supplement or food, there is always a low risk of an allergic reaction.

  • Swelling in the face, throat or tongue
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Severe skin rash with blistering or peeling
  • Vomiting
  • Weak pulse
  • Shock
  • Fainting

This is serious, you need to seek urgent medical attention immediately.

What about other supplements?

You can take other supplements to support detoxification. However, our bodies are amazing detoxifying machines, with the right diet, enough fibre and water they can do an excellent job.

Adding more supplements give the body more work to do, absorbing, metabolizing and transporting. Sometimes it’s best not to overcomplicate things
